I started riding over 20 years ago as a child. I began riding in group lessons at a local hunter/jumper barn where I moved up from a beginner to one of the more advanced riders.
My first horse was a big, chestnut Saddlebred that jumped and did dressage. I was 16 years old and on my own in paying for board, vet, lessons and the care of my horse. He taught me many, MANY things including how much work is involved in horse care!
I attended Stephens College with a major in Equine Management but severe home-sickness didn't allow me to finish, I came home after my first year. While continuing my education closer to home, I worked at local tack shops and bought my first Thoroughbred mare, Keeping Secrets. I enjoyed learning dressage on her and expanded my knowledge to combinded training.
I married and started a family and ended up taking an 8 year hiatus from riding and horse ownership. At 30 years old I decided to go back to school and became a Certified Veterinary Technician. I currently work at a large specialty & referral hospital in the ER/Critical Care department.
When my oldest daughter was 8 years old, she was bitten by the horse bug and we found a wonderful older Quarter Horse to lease and I began teaching her how to ride. I enjoyed teaching so much I was hired on at the barn to teach beginners. I have found that it is truely my passion.
Growing up, I was a student at a large barn where sometimes I felt like "just a number" and since I didn't own my own horse I felt overlooked. My goal for Daydream Equestrian is that I work on YOUR riding goals, whether its to be comfortable on a horse for the occasional trial ride to preparing you for horse ownership.
So I encourage you to STOP DREAMING and START RIDING!
